Facilities

SILC Learning Support Services offers the use of computer classrooms, seminar spaces, and a collaborative project-based learning classroom to faculty and students within the School. Instructors may reserve any of these spaces for class sessions by filling out the LSS Facilities Request Form. If there is no scheduled class activity in these rooms, students may use the facilities on a walk-in basis.

LL61: Computer Classroom

This computer classroom seats 52 students and contains individual carrels with microphone headsets as well as 28 networked MacMini computers capable of running both Windows 7 and Mac OS. There is an instructor workstation with projection and speakers. Additional equipment, such as DVD players and VCRs for film courses, is available at the Circulation/Information window (LL66).

LL61B: Online Teaching Studio

This online teaching studio contains one Windows workstation and one MacOS/Windows dual boot workstation equipped with webcams, microphone headsets and software for creating screencasts and other materials for online or hybrid instruction. This space is available to faculty, including TAs and faculty associates, engaged in online or hybrid instruction in the School. Onsite support is available during LSS hours of operation.

LL64A: One Button Video Studio


This video studio, equipped with a high-definition camera and green screen is set up to allow faculty and students to quickly produce high-quality video materials that include elements such as still images, presentations, documents, or clips for face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses. Students are limited to 15-minute blocks of studio time that must be reserved via their instructor. Faculty may reserve multiple blocks of 30-minute recording sessions. In order to ensure efficient use of this facility, we ask that patrons come rehearsed and prepared to record. This space is available to faculty and students, including TAs and faculty associates. Onsite support is available during LSS hours of operation.

LL65A: Computer Classroom

This computer classroom seats 36 students at networked MacMinis capable of running both Windows 7 and Mac OS. All computers have microphone headsets, and there is an instructor workstation with projection and speakers. LL65B: Seminar Space

This space, adjacent to 65A, is a 16-seat non-mediated seminar space for smaller classes, group work, and laptop use. It includes tables for conference or casual seating for individual work and whiteboards. Additionally, it maybe expanded for seminar seating. Additional equipment, such as monitors, DVD players and VCRs for film courses, is available at the Circulation/Information window (LL66). This space is primarily reserved for language tutoring.

LL68: Collaboratory - Project-based Learning Classroom

This room is intended to support student collaboration, project-based learning and videoconferencing. Its flexible design allows for up to four groups (a total of 16 people) to use the space at a given time -- the space contains four "pods" that can be individually reserved for project work and tutoring. Alternatively, the entire room may be scheduled for a larger group seminar class. This space is unique at ASU, containing cutting edge technologies such as wireless laptop-to-display connections, a 96" touchscreen SmartBoard, and high-definition conference webcams for videoconferencing via Vidyo, Skype or Adobe Connect. Additional equipment, such as DVD players and VCRs for film courses, is available at the Circulation/Information window (LL66).
